When I try to adjust the height of the seats either driver or pax by pulling or pushing on the levers at the side of the seats, nothing happens. Am I missing a trick here? Or, is it a linkage problem or something? The seats both move beautifuly on their runnersbackwards and forwards but the height adjustment doesn't happen. I'd be grateful for any words of wisdom and if I am being dumb, I apologise Many thanks.

SteviteeAug 23, Er, well I didn't cover myself with glory by posting that enquiry did I? Just been out to play with the seats again and now I geddit!! Apologies must be that I am used to my Ecdi and letting the electrics do it for me Thanks Steve. SteviteeAug 24, So sorry that you did not get a reply last night.

mercedes seat adjustment not working

Hi Malcolm No need to apologise but thanks for taking the time. No worries and anyway, my question probably seemed so silly that it didn't warrant a reply. However, I must say that I am very pleased with the SLK although it is a little underwhelming when compared with my E when going for a 'blast'. That's what a difference cc makes I suppose. Almost wish I'd gone for the bigger SLK now. Anyway I've no doubt I'll be back to the forum with another more meaningful question quite soon.

Thanks again. SteviteeAug 25, I don't know much about these cars yet but am looking forward to finding out more. I'm having the same problem that Stevitee had when he first got his car. I just cannot seem to get the seat to lower. I'm sitting far too high at the moment and my head is nearly touching the roof and I'm only small, about 5'4". Stevitee says he eventually found how to make the seat go down but doesn't say how he did it! Can anyone offer some advice please?

Help would be appreciated otherwise we will have to have his and her SLKs!But in time, you will undoubtedly face such problems that require you to learn how to manually move a power seat.

When your car power seat seems to be in fine condition but fails to more either in different ways, the problem may lie on its switch. If so, it should be removed for testing.

For safety purposes, a wiring diagram might be needed to know what particular switch terminals are connected or should be connected to retrain some specific functions. If you want to know how to install switches on your car, watch the video below. You must carefully remember that arranging wires without studying or looking into wiring diagram could bring hazard on you.

The power seat usually refers to the front chair or seat of a car, which is equipped with an electric motor that controls the positioning or movement of the car seat.

It could be adjusted through the use of a set of electric motors. With this seat, occupants or passengers can adjust their seat through its switch.

Power seat is a unit with 6-way functions. You should know that there are other kinds of power seat that you should know. In power seat, you have mostly two different configuration options. The popular one is mostly the 4-way seat. This is the type of seat which is initially provided to a high-end type of cars or automobiles. But it also then becomes available to lower end type of cars or automobiles such as trucks pickup.

The breakthrough on electrical motor innovation enables the motor seats to be long lasting and more durable. The upper or top control of the power seat is for the backrest adjustment. On the other hand, the lower control is designated for the adjustment of the legroom and the individual adjustment of the front height. This means that you will not anymore move it through the use of levers.

For more practical use, the power seats typically go with particular memory options. This type of seat is the replacement for bar or lever type front seat.

What is the power seat switch? The switch of the power seat is one of its vital features for its control. The adjustment motors of the power seat are bidirectional. The rotation direction of the motor is dependent on the particular direction that the switch is being set or pushed.

The steering wheel position is also controlled by the switch on the driver's side door panel. On our project car, the steering wheel adjustment simply stopped working one day.

At the same time, the functions on the switch somehow became reversed. When you pressed forward on the switch, the seat moved backward. Press backward and the seat moved forward. This can be caused by few different things. In the event that the functions become reversed or stop working, first try pushing the switch forward and holding it there for around ten seconds.

This will cause the system to "relearn" the stop positions for the seat. If this doesn't work, you can also try looking under both the driver's and passenger seats. You'll see an electrical harness going into each seat. Slide the plastic locking tab over to detach the harness from the seat control module under each seat.

Pull the harness out and check the electrical connections inside for any corrosion. Sometimes a spilled drink can leave a sticky residue on there or prevent the circuit from making contact. If so, clean the switch and reseat it into the seat module. Turn the ignition on and check to see if all of the seat controls now work. Sometimes, re-seating the electrical cables and moving the switches to full stop has no effect on the operation of the switch.

In these cases, the last thing to try is re-flowing the solder joints on the circuit board. I have heard of situations where living near the ocean causes salt air to corrode the connections inside the switch. The corrosion from the salt air tends to weaken the solder joints on the boards, causing the connections to lose electrical continuity. At the very least, trying this might make the switch work again. If not, there is probably a fault in one or more of the various electronic components on the board.

If you're really electronically savvy, you can test each circuit track for continuity and start testing each individual component on the board. If the switch still doesn't operate the seats correctly after all of this, it probably needs to be replaced. New seat switches are available. There are two different types available based on the chassis number of your car. Sometime during production, the electrical harness to the seat switch changed, so make sure you check before ordering.

Remember that electrical items are usually not returnable. Shown here is the seat adjustment switch for the Mercedes Benz W chassis. The switch itself is a known failure item due to problems with the solder joints on the circuit board.Note: The online Owner's Manual is the latest version available.

Position the backrest in an almost vertical position so that you are sitting virtually upright.

Avoid seat positions that prevent the seat belt from being routed correctly. The shoulder section of the belt must be routed over the middle of your shoulder and be pulled tight against your upper body. The lap belt must always pass across your lap as low down as possible, i. Do not drive with the backrest reclined too far back.

Your arms should be slightly bent when you are holding the steering wheel. The distance from the pedals should be such that you can depress them fully. Adjust your head restraint so that its upper edge is at the same level as the top of your head.

Make sure that you hear the seat engage. Otherwise, the seat is not correctly locked in place. Failing to observe these instructions may lead to injury. Depending on the seat model, some adjustments may not be available.

Slide the seat forwards or back until you can depress the pedals. Release lever. Slide the seat forwards or back until you hear it engage.

The seat backrest moves to a vertical position. Turn handwheel towards the rear. To adjust the seat cushion angle: turn handwheel forwards. The lumbar support allows you to use the backrest to increase the support provided to the lumbar spine. When the lumbar support is correctly adjusted, it reduces strain on your back while driving. To adjust the lumbar support: turn handwheel up. This increases the support provided to the lumbar region.

This reduces the support provided to the lumbar region. The seat suspension must be adapted to your body weight. Adjust the seat suspension only while the seat is unoccupied. To adjust the seat suspension: take your weight off the seat. The seat suspension will become more rigid the higher you set the weight. It will then not move as far. If the seat moves up and down frequently and to a great extent, you can lock the seat in the lower movement range.

To engage the seat suspension lock: turn lever down.Mercedes-Benz W models are equipped with dynamic seats in the front of the vehicle. These seats are equipped to fill and exhaust the air cushions of the multi-contour seat according to the requirements that are read by the operating switch. The seat controls can save the actual contour and adjusting stored contours, maintain the adjusted pressure values, and adjust nominal pressures of the individual cushion areas are controlled continuously.

The dynamic lumbar support function: Starting with the active air cushion, the pulsation occurs alternately in both lumbar support duo cushions. After the program is finished, the original cushion pressure is restored.

The pulsation occurs in pressure jumps of 50 hPa each, upwards or downwards. The residual time can be parameterized. The vehicle dynamics seat function combines the advantages of a comfortable seat with those of a sports seat. To achieve this, the lateral support during cornering is improved through an automatic pressure increase of the outside lateral support cushions; in the seat cushion under the thigh areathe lumbar support area four behind the back cushions the four cushions are coupled in pairsthe lateral area side support cushions cushions that are coupled with one another can be actuated in the hydraulic unit.

The air supply that is necessary to fill the seat cushions is provided by the dynamic seat pump and stored in the reservoir. The adjusted contours can be stored. When the pump fails or a leak develops, fault codes with be stored. The system will try to inflate or adjust as requested.
